The Tree Streets of Collingwood
Collingwood’s “Tree Streets,” of Collingwood is situated in the historic downtown. The “tree” street names were chosen by early lumbermen who developed the area west of Hurontario Street. The names paid homage to the source of their bounty, including the pine, maple, and cedar trees that were abundant in the region. The streets were part of the earliest known town map, printed by newspaper founder John Hogg in 1871. The grid was a notable contrast to the more British-inspired and numbered streets on the east side of Hurontario.
The tree streets are highly sought-after for their proximity to downtown Collingwood, offering a balance of quiet, residential living with easy access to shopping and other amenities.
